New Sound

Yes! Yes! Yes!

We enter a brand new decade with a special weekend show on Friday 29 January at World Headquarters, and to mark it we've invited East London's Drum n' Bass behemoth, DJ Zinc, to play some of that bass-heavy 'Crack House' music that he's been pioneering since the start of 2009.

Ahead of our return, this month's radio features a heap of amazing new tunes cobbled together by residents Tim Shaw and Sully, including a couple of Zinc releases - both old and new - to give you some idea of what you can expect come Friday 29 January at WHQ.

Ready Or Not!

After an amazing end to last term with a capacity blow out at WHQ, Inertia kicks off the New Year with a very special show on Friday 29 January featuring East London's Drum N Bass Veteran -

ZINC - http://www.myspace.com/bingozinc

Since he first emerged almost 2 decades ago, Benjamin Pettit has become one of the most respected DnB producers around. Aside from heading up his own record label - "True Playaz" - alongside DJ Hype, Zinc is responsible for some of the biggest drum and bass releases of the past 15 years, a couple of which are included in this month's INERTIA GLOBAL RADIO podcast (links below). The result of this relentless work schedule has been a place in the history of the UK's underground music scene which spans from the early evolution of hardcore from its house and rave roots, through ragga and hiphop-styled hardstep, and beyond.

Having just dropped one of 2009's most hotly anticipated releases, "Crack House E.P.", Zinc's new twist on bassline-heavy electro has seen him receive non-stop radioplay from the likes of Annie Mac and Toddla T, and a touring schedule which has seen him play primetime slots at some of the most established venues in the UK, from Fabric and Matter in London to Manchester's Warehouse Party. And come Friday 29 January 2009, you can see him play the North East's most independent, underground and alternative venue - WORLD HEADQUARTERS.

With more genre-smashing sets in the form of supporting residents TIM SHAW and SULLY, this is the only way to start term.

After another packed-out show at World HQ in November, December sees us bring in the holidays with an End Of Term Blowout like no other.

Our focus is purely on making this the most memorable party you'll have had all term, so we're sticking to Inertia resident DJs from start to finish, playing the kind of records which our monthly party has become synonymous with. We've also fixed entry at just £4 all night for everyone, so you won't have to break the bank to join us celebrate the end of term. In fact, we're running a reduced entry guestlist on Facebook so click the link below if you wanna get in for even less. On top of this, we're keeping the bar open and music playing 'til 4am to make sure you can have one proper last night out with your friends before the holidays.

Be warned, our end of term parties have been our busiest dates in years gone past, so head down early if you want to be sure of getting in.

Happy Holidays from everyone at our end.x

Retrospective

Here's what happened when we returned to WHQ with Smoove & Turrell, 12.11.09...

Friday, 9 October 2009

We're not gonna make too many speeches.

Inertia Global Radio Episode 2: It's All About The Music.

"We're keeping you up to speed with hardcore music: the music is what it's all about. I love it, just like you love it; that's why you're here. I'm here because I love to play - if you don't come, I can't play, and I love to play...

So! We don't wanna make too many speeches 'cos it's all about the music. You just heard a hardcore sequence of hotshot dubplates from down Jamaica way. Right about now we're gonna start to change the pace and change the style.

During the course of the night we're switching, we're swapping, we ride round the track together."

SMOOVE & TURRELL (Jalapeno Records) - LIVE

plus resident DJs:

TIM SHAW
SULLY

After a sell-out show on our return to WHQ in October, this month sees Inertia return to its regular setup upstairs, where our resident DJs will be playing alongside blue-eyed funk and soul legends, SMOOVE AND TURRELL (live).

We're dead chuffed to play host to these guys - if you've seen them before you'll understand why: with constant airplay on BBC Radio, summer festival slots worldwide, and John Turrell having been voted lead vocalist in BBC6 Music's Fantasy British Funk Band (before being invited to play a one-off show at London's Maida Vale Studios to celebrate it's 70th birthday), this is a local bunch who have already left an indelible mark on the history of UK Funk and Soul music. Having sold out the Sage in September, and with Inertia set to be their last full live band performance of the year in their hometown of Newcastle Upon Tyne, be warned: arrive early!

More genre-smashing DJ sets from the guy who puts the funk into "funky chicken", TIM SHAW, and a papa who's always in need of a brand new bag, SULLY.

Prepare your index for some serious Tim McVicar-led finger waggin'.x

We've missed you folks all summer, but boy do we have a show lined up for your return...

Direct from Israel, via Berlin, comes the speaker cabinet-shattering, live dubstep partnership of Gal Moore and Gal Bar-Adon, known internationally as JAZZSTEPPA. Fresh from a busy summer of touring which saw them take in the likes of Glade, Big Chill Festival and Secret Garden Party, the bastion dub alliance hit World Headquarters with trombones in-hand, ready to convert you to their Church of Dub. With releases on MG77 and Hot Flush Recordings coming thick and fast, do not miss this chance to see one of the most talked about dubstep acts of 2009. Talk about Gal power? Massive Israelites, MASSIVE!

We’re also dead excited to be able to welcome back our friends, AND SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR, who this month bring a formidable support in the form of Befast-based AXIS OF. With a trans-European summer touring schedule which included shows at Oxegen, Pukkelpop and Truck, this is quite honestly one of the most exciting bands currently emerging from the UK, and for all the right reasons. Despite having spent the last month writing their new album in an abandoned cottage somewhere in the backwoods of the Republic of Ireland with nothing but mouldy potatoes for food, and an old “Beadle's About” video for inspiration, Zane’s left these guys on repeat at BBC Radio One. So, we are honoured to have them back to play our party, having already played host to their first ever UK show back in 2007, and we're certain you'll be blown away. Expect nothing less than their most savage performance to date ever come October 8. (Rest In Peace Jeremy.)

With support from
Exit Festival veteran, TIM SHAW, and the man keeping all the criminals out of jail, SULLY.

It's been a while. Welcome to
